Relationships can be very fulfilling whether they are friendships, a marriage partner or plain partner, children, brothers, sisters, the wider family. They can also be the source of much pain and suffering.
In the therapy situation this is dealt with on an individual basis unless it is marriage guidance counselling which is different from what I offer. In dealing with relationship problems it is important to know what you really want. Therapy could be much more effective if there are firm aims/goals. For example, if it is an intimate relationship are you looking for a "soul mate"? If so then are you looking for the ideal person or someone you can be comfortable with? There is a saying that,
Mature relationships are a multiplicity of patches but youth looks for perfection.
When looking for perfection only too often disappointment follows soon after.
Improve confidence for dating
Dating is covered in the therapy too and how to be confident that one will do one's best in that situation. Related to dating is sex therapy which deals with the various problems that can have an impact on the relationship. Depending on the problem then the therapy is designed to deal with it in a specific way. For example, if it is nerves about "performance" then hypnotherapy, along with counselling, could be a good way to calm a person down and to help them think in a more effective way. Is it really about "performance" anyway and more about proper relating. Valuable sources of information are, "The Enlightened Sex Manual", David Deida, Sounds True, and “Hypnosex”, Valerie Austin, Thorsons.

Do you need someone to complete you?
In therapy it is made clear that it is not a good idea to seek any relationship just because you feel lonely. It is better to discover the real you and to be a whole person through therapy and bring that to a relationship which will hopefully be with another whole person. A relationship is much more likely to work if the person is prepared to be vulnerable and open up to the other. It is the willingness to take risks. It is the willingness to make compromises and accept the other's quirks and even the things you think you don't like about them because they probably don't like certain aspects of yourself. This is being realistic in a relationship rather than just allowing romance to take over and thinking that is true love. Romance is fine if it does develop into true love and then the romance will remain in the relationship. A really fulfilling relationship can be one of the most enjoyable, fulfilling and important experiences in life.
Improve relationships with therapy
Although the emphasis here has been on the intimate relationship that can develop between people, in a loving, physical. emotional and caring way, it has to be said that it isn't possible to have an intimate relationship without relating well to people in general. The relationship therapy in Newport and Cardiff therefore is about developing that too.
